FAQ and Q&A Apps for Confluence — Which One Is Right for Your Team?

Teams need two types of knowledge sharing in Confluence: structured FAQ sections for pages, and community Q&A forums for ongoing discussion. Confluence has no built-in solution for either.

We built two apps to cover both needs — Modern FAQ for Confluence for polished, drag-and-drop FAQ sections, and Modern Questions for Confluence for structured Q&A with voting and accepted answers. In this post we compare both against the alternatives on the Atlassian Marketplace.

Two Problems, One Ecosystem

FAQ sections — You want a clean, collapsible list of questions and answers on a Confluence page. Think product FAQs, onboarding guides, or IT help pages. Teams typically cobble together toggles or tables that look clunky.

Q&A forums — You want a space where anyone can ask a question, others can answer, and the best answer rises to the top. Think Stack Overflow for your company. Confluence has nothing built-in for this.

These are different problems — and the apps that solve them are different too. Let's look at both.

Data from Atlassian Marketplace, April 2026.

The FAQ space is small and underserved. The market leader (VECTORS) has only 310 installs with a 2.2-star rating — users report frustrating configuration experiences. FAQ Basic is free but has been unsupported since May 2025.

Where Modern FAQ Stands Out

  • Two modern themes — clean centered layout or accordion collapse style
  • Drag-and-drop — reorder questions by dragging, no cutting and pasting
  • WYSIWYG answers — rich text with formatting, links, and images
  • Actively maintained — updated February 2026

Where We Could Improve

  • 5 installs — we're brand new in a category where even the leader has only 310
  • No JSM public portal — VECTORS can publish FAQs to Jira Service Management portals; our app is for internal Confluence pages
  • No reviews yet — building trust with early adopters

Data from Atlassian Marketplace, April 2026.

This is a bigger market. Atlassian's own Questions for Confluence dominates with 4,021 installs — but it's Data Center only (no Cloud version) and carries a 2.4-star rating from 77 reviews. Many of those reviews cite a dated interface and missing features.

EliteSoft's Q&A (670 installs) is also DC-only. Smart Q&A and Community Questions offer Cloud versions but haven't matched the install numbers.

Where Modern Questions Stands Out

  • Cloud-native — built for Confluence Cloud, unlike Atlassian's DC-only offering
  • Voting + accepted answers — Stack Overflow-style workflow that surfaces the best answer
  • Modern UI — clean interface that fits naturally into Confluence
  • Newest app in the category — shipped April 2026 with fresh architecture

Where We Could Improve

  • 1 install — just launched, no track record yet
  • No Slack/Teams notifications — Community Questions by Firnity offers this
  • No DC version — Cloud-only for now; the largest competitors serve the DC market

The Cloud Opportunity

Here's the key insight: Atlassian's Questions for Confluence has 4,021 installs but is DC-only. If you're on Confluence Cloud and want a Q&A experience, your options are limited to Smart Q&A (280 installs, 3.5 stars), Community Questions (157 installs, 4.0 stars), or our Modern Questions (brand new, April 2026).

The Cloud Q&A market is underserved and waiting for a better option.
