Import Export for Confluence — Which Content Migration App Should You Choose?
Teams move content in and out of Confluence every day — migrating between instances, backing up documentation, importing from other tools, exporting for offline review. Confluence has basic PDF and HTML export built in, but it's limited. No bulk operations, no multi-format support, no structured import workflow.
Over a dozen marketplace apps try to fill this gap, but most solve one narrow problem: PDF export, Word import, or Markdown conversion. We built Modern Importer & Exporter for Confluence to handle both directions — import and export — across multiple formats. In this post we compare it against every alternative on the Atlassian Marketplace.
The Problem with Confluence's Built-in Export
Confluence can export a single page to PDF or a whole space to HTML. That's it. If you need to:
- Import content from Word, Markdown, or HTML files
- Export multiple pages across different spaces in one operation
- Migrate content between Confluence instances without losing formatting
- Backup specific pages (not entire spaces) in a reusable format
- Convert between formats — say, HTML to Confluence-native ADF
...you need a marketplace app. The problem is that most apps handle one direction (import OR export) in one format. Teams end up installing multiple apps for tasks that should be simple.
What's Available on the Marketplace
The landscape splits into two categories: export-focused apps and import-focused apps. Very few do both.

Data from Atlassian Marketplace, April 2026.
K15t dominates with Scroll PDF (9,284 installs) and Scroll Word (4,853 installs). Both are mature, Cloud Fortified apps with professional template editors. But they only export — no import — and each handles a single format.
Narva Software Labs has four apps in this space, but ratings tell the story: All-in-one File Importer has 1.3 stars from 24 reviews, and Markdown Importer & Editor has 2.2 stars.
Only our app and Yamuno's Markdown Importer & Exporter offer both import and export. But Yamuno only handles Markdown. Modern Importer & Exporter supports JSON, XML, HTML, and Markdown in both directions.

Where Modern Importer & Exporter Stands Out
Bidirectional multi-format — The only app that imports AND exports across JSON, XML, HTML, and Markdown. Every other app is either export-only (Scroll, Markdown Exporter, Content Exporter) or import-only (Word Importer, OneNote Importer), or limited to a single format (Yamuno only does Markdown).
Multi-space bulk operations — Select content from multiple spaces and export it all in one operation. No other app offers cross-space selection with bulk export and import.
Individual content actions — Right-click any page or blog post to export or import content directly. No need to navigate to a separate admin page. Quick actions for single items, bulk operations for migrations.
Four import formats — JSON (native ADF, best fidelity), XML, HTML, and Markdown. Most importers support one format. All-in-one File Importer supports 30+ formats but carries a 1.3-star rating.
Override or append import modes — Choose whether imported content replaces the existing page or appends to it. Gives you control over how content lands.
Progress tracking — Real-time progress indicators during bulk operations. Know how far along your export or import is, with success/error counts on completion.
Where We Could Improve
- 12 installs — We're brand new in a space where K15t has over 14,000 combined installs. Building trust takes time.
- No PDF export — Scroll PDF by K15t is the gold standard for professional PDF output with custom templates, branding, and watermarks. Our app focuses on structured data formats (JSON, XML, HTML, Markdown) rather than print-ready documents.
- No Word/DOCX support — Scroll Word handles professional Word export with custom templates. We don't export to DOCX yet.
- No template editor — K15t's Scroll apps have visual template editors for branding and styling. Our exports use the content's native formatting.
- No attachment export/import — We handle page content only. Attachments are not included in exports or imports.
- No Cloud Fortified status — K15t's Scroll PDF has completed Atlassian's Cloud Fortified program. We're working toward this.
- No Data Center support — Cloud-only. K15t serves both Cloud and DC customers.
