Getting Started
Accessing the App
- Log in to your Confluence instance
- Click on the Apps menu in the top navigation
- Select Modern My Tasks
Understanding the Interface
Task Table
The main interface displays all your tasks in a sortable, paginated table with the following columns:
- Checkbox: Mark individual tasks as complete/incomplete
- Task: The task title (click to edit inline)
- Creator: User who created the task
- Assignee: Users assigned to the task (click to edit)
- Due Date: Task deadline (click to edit)
- Source: Link to the page or blog post containing the task
Filtering Tabs
All Tasks
Shows every task across your Confluence instance, both complete and incomplete. Use this for a complete overview of all work.
I Created
Displays only incomplete tasks that you created. Perfect for tracking deliverables you've assigned to others.
Assigned to Me
Shows incomplete tasks assigned to you. Your personal to-do list for focused work.
Completed
Archive of all completed tasks. Review what's been accomplished or reopen tasks if needed.
Working with Tasks
Viewing Tasks
- Sort: Click any column header to sort by that field
- Navigate: Use pagination controls at the bottom to browse multiple pages
- Jump to Source: Click the "View" button to open the page containing the task
Editing Task Titles
- Click on the task title text
- Edit the text in the input field
- Press Enter or click outside to save
- A spinner appears briefly while saving
Managing Assignees
- Click on the assignee field (or "Click to assign" placeholder)
- Search for users in the picker
- Select one or multiple users
- Press Enter or click outside to save
- Assignees appear as avatars with names
Setting Due Dates
- Click on the due date field (or "Set due date" placeholder)
- Select a date from the calendar picker
- The date saves automatically
- Dates display in your locale format
Completing Tasks
Single Task:
- Check the checkbox next to the task
- The task updates immediately
- Uncheck to mark as incomplete
Bulk Complete:
- Click the checkbox in the table header
- All incomplete tasks are marked complete at once
- Great for end-of-sprint cleanup
Tips & Best Practices
Efficient Task Management
- Use the "Assigned to Me" tab as your daily to-do list
- Check "I Created" regularly to follow up on delegated work
- Review "Completed" weekly to track progress
- Sort by Due Date to prioritize urgent tasks
Inline Editing
- All edits save automatically - no save button needed
- Watch for the spinner to confirm your changes are saving
- If an edit fails, you'll see an error message at the top
Keyboard Navigation
- Press Enter to confirm inline edits
- Press Escape to cancel inline edits
- Tab through fields for quick editing
Working Across Spaces
- Tasks from all spaces you have access to appear in the list
- Use the Source column to identify which space a task belongs to
- Click "View" to jump directly to the source page
Troubleshooting
Tasks Not Appearing
- Newly created tasks require a page reload to appear
- Ensure you have permission to view the pages containing the tasks
- Refresh the page to reload task data
- Check that tasks are properly created in Confluence pages
Cannot Edit Tasks
- Verify you have edit permissions for the source page
- Ensure the task still exists in the source page
- Try refreshing the page
Assignee Not Showing
- Confirm the user has access to your Confluence instance
- Check that the user mention exists in the task
- App users are filtered out automatically
Due Date Issues
- Dates display in your browser's locale format
- Ensure you select a valid date in the picker
- Check the source page to verify the date was saved
Permissions
What You Can See
You can only see tasks from pages and blog posts you have permission to view in Confluence.
What You Can Edit
You can only edit tasks in pages where you have edit permissions.
User Privacy
The app respects all Confluence user permissions and privacy settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I create new tasks from this app? A: Not currently. Create tasks in Confluence pages. After creating a task, reload the Modern My Tasks page to see it appear in your list.
Q: Do changes sync back to the source page? A: Yes! All edits update the task in the original page or blog post.
Q: Can I delete tasks? A: Delete tasks from the source page. They'll be removed from this view automatically.
Q: How often does the task list refresh? A: The list refreshes automatically after each edit. Click the Refresh button for manual updates.
Q: Can I export my task list? A: Not currently. Use Confluence's native export features on individual pages.
Q: Does this work with Confluence Cloud and Data Center? A: This app is built for Confluence Cloud using Forge.
