Why this matters in Confluence
Confluence pages are mostly linear text, which is fine for prose but falls short the moment a page has to bridge the offline and online worlds or explain something that genuinely moves. A poster linking to a deep-dive page, a printed runbook pointing to the live version, or an algorithm that only makes sense when you watch it build — none of those are well served by a wall of static paragraphs. The result is that teams either drop the idea (and lose the link between paper and web) or paste a screenshot of a static equation that nobody can follow.
QR codes bridge physical and digital
A QR code turns any printed material — a poster at a conference, a sticker on a server rack, a line in a slide deck, a page in a printed handbook — into a one-tap link to the live Confluence page. Typing a long URL by hand is error-prone and short links break the moment the redirect service changes. A QR code generated from the page itself stays accurate because updating the target URL regenerates the code, with no manual rebuild.
Some concepts genuinely need motion
Equations, algorithms, and proofs are notoriously hard to absorb from a single static formula. A short animation that builds the result step by step — variables appearing, terms cancelling, the final form emerging — is dramatically easier to follow and far more memorable. This is the entire teaching style behind channels like 3Blue1Brown, and it works just as well inside an internal wiki as it does on screen.
External tools break the workflow
Generating a QR code on a random website and pasting the PNG, or rendering a math animation in a separate tool and uploading the video, pulls the author out of Confluence and detaches the asset from the page. Six months later nobody remembers which tool produced it or how to regenerate it. Keeping generation inside the page means the source lives next to the output, so an update is one edit, not a re-export cycle.
Static assets decay silently
A pasted QR image is a snapshot of one URL at one moment; if the target moves, the code still scans but lands somewhere broken, and nothing flags it. A rendered animation is a video file that cannot be edited without going back to the original tool. Generated elements that live as source inside the page can be re-rendered on demand, so they stay correct as the underlying content evolves.
It should stay native Confluence content
When a QR code or animation is rendered as native page content rather than an external embed, it participates in everything that makes Confluence useful: search indexing, PDF and Word export, page permissions, and version history. External links and embedded iframes fail most of those checks, which is why pages built on them break the moment they are exported or moved.

Decide what the element has to achieve
Before generating anything, name the job. If the goal is "let someone on paper reach this page", you need a QR code. If the goal is "show how this algorithm behaves over time", you need an animation. Picking the wrong element type is the most common mistake — a static screenshot where a build-up animation was needed, or a typed URL where a scannable code was needed.

Generate the element in-page
Insert the right macro and generate the QR code or animation from a source — a URL or text string for QR, Manim or similar code for animation — rather than pasting a static asset from an external tool. Generating in-page keeps the source next to the output and makes regeneration a one-click operation when the source changes.

Tune it to the audience
For QR codes, set the size, color, and error-correction level to match where it will be printed — a small dark code on a slide needs different settings from a large poster on a wall. For animations, frame the concept so it builds from first principles, with clear labels at each step, and keep the runtime short enough that a reader watches it to the end.

Save as native page content
When the element is saved with the page it stays editable and exportable alongside the rest of the content. Updating the URL behind a QR code or the code behind an animation re-renders the output, so the asset never goes stale the way a pasted PNG does. This is what keeps enrichment sustainable instead of a one-off chore.

Test it in the real context
Print the QR code at the size you intend to use and scan it from a real phone at a realistic distance — a code that renders fine on screen can be unreadable on a glossy poster. For animations, watch the rendered output on a laptop the way a reader will, not just in the editor, and confirm the playback is smooth and the labels are legible.

Reuse and iterate
Once a QR code style or an animation template works, reuse it across pages so the visual language stays consistent. Save the Manim source for a working animation as a starting point for the next one, and apply the same QR size and color wherever it appears, so readers learn to recognise and trust the element.
